Many people seem to be confused as to what is meant by the terms "software" and "hardware". Hardware includes printers, scanners, cd-roms, and other objects that are attached to your computer, via cables or otherwise. |
| Software refers to programs - code that performs a particular task on your computer. |

Most people's computers come with many types of software already installed on them. Word processors allow you to write letters, spreadsheets allow you to track data or keep records, and every computer should have a virus protection program! Windows 98 even includes a program, Front Page Express, that allows you to write basic web pages, if you have that inclination. A web browser is software that enables you to view web pages on your computer. Some of the most popular web browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape's Communicator. I can show you what program will work best for your needs, and give you pointers and tips on how to use these programs. I do not receive any money from any particular company to "push" that brand, so you can rely on my recommendations as being from sheer experience. I can take away the mystery of using the different commands within your programs, and show you which commands are standard in almost every Windows program. I can also teach you how to install new programs on your computer, and the proper way to un-install them, too! |
